Terrifying ‘enormous crunch’ sound forces immediate closure of UK’s oldest rollercoaster
The sound of an "enormous crunch" has led to the closure of one of the UK's oldest rollercoasters at Dreamland amusement park in Margate.
The UK’s oldest surviving rollercoaster remains closed after an "enormous crunch" was heard by visitors.
The Scenic Railway at Dreamland in Margate was closed on August 10 after a fault caused damage to pieces of the wooden track.
Dreamland said the ride would be out of action while engineers carried out a full investigation and the track was repaired.
Local resident Micah Fagan, who was due to go on the ride shortly before it was shut told the BBC: "I heard an enormous crunch of wood splitting... it didn’t sound right.
"It is one of the main attractions of Dreamland. If you are from the area, you have always known about it."

Mr Fagan praised the reaction of staff who he said remained "super calm".
Dreamland said that the ride automatically shut off following the incident and that thrill-seekers onboard were given a precautionary check by their onsite first aid team.
Dreamland said: "The ride is currently not in operation whilst the qualified engineers carry out a full investigation and track damage is repaired."
