Holidaymakers and business travellers are being warned they face  delays and additional charges if they pack their laptops and large tablets incorrectly.

With Ryanair and easyJet imposing additional fees for oversized carry-on bags, it's crucial to ensure your electronics fit within the size restrictions.  The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advises that when taking electronics abroad, they can be placed in checked-in hold luggage - provided various rules are followed.

The CAA says passengers should ensure their devices are "completely switched off, not in sleep mode" - and are "protected from damage".   The CAA website further notes: "Large portable electronic devices such as laptops and tablets should not be packed near aerosols or perfumes."

"Passengers travelling to the UK from all other destinations are able to pack their laptops in their hand luggage. Many passengers prefer to keep their laptops in their carry-on baggage in order to be sure they are not damaged during transit", but keeping the bag size within limits is essential to dodge extra charges.

For those seeking a solution, Small Travel Hand Luggage Backpack, on Amazon has been designed with Ryanair passengers in mind, and costs just  £21.24.

It fits the measurement restrictions exactly. However, it still has a packing capacity of 20 litres, which should give you enough space for a couple of days worth of clothes.

"Zips seem to be good quality as is the material of the bag itself. Excellent value for money compared to other similar brands."

Another review gushed: "Brilliant backpack for travelling. A lots of pockets to put things, really useful. Great value for money. Sturdy."

CabinMax's  £35 Manhattan bag  is another brand favoured by budget-conscious flyers. The Irish Mirror's Harriet Morphy-Morris reviewed the bag last year and was highly impressed.

She wrote: "Packing a bag full of clothes, toiletries, make-up and a handbag for no extra charge - the check-in staff didn't stop to check the size either."

"It may look small but I managed to fit in two pairs of trousers (one pair of jeans and one pair of flared trousers), three thin jumpers, two t-shirt style tops, a trench coat, one pair of pyjamas (plus underwear of course), a toiletry bag and my handbag."

You can still buy the Cabin Max bag, here.
