This pretty seaside town has been ranked as one of the cheapest places to visit this summer, with car parking prices that won't break the bank. Lowestoft, named as the most easterly town in England, sits on the Suffolk coast.

With its sprawling promenade and colourful beach-huts, it fits in with the trendy vibe of coastal living - and sees its fair share of tourists each year. But according to analysis from Compare the Market, it has topped the leadership board in terms of affordability in a variety of areas.

Visitors travelling to the coast from afar often have to factor in a multitude of elements when creating a plan for the day. This often includes price of car-parking, nearby restaurants - what they serve and how much - and for some, the price of a pint.

The newly-released data takes all these valid points into consideration, and has crowned Lowestoft as being cheapest in all these areas, with Margate in Kent coming in second place.

It claims the cost of six-hours in a local car-park costs £3.15 "on average" with the average meal out coming in at £5.50. The stats do not drill down exactly whether this sum is a light-lunch or an evening meal.

"The town is renowned for being the most easterly town in the UK, making it the first place to see the sunrise – so you’re in for a treat if you’re lucky enough to get there bright and early," its spokesman said.

So what else does Lowestoft have to offer? The town, around 45 miles from the city of Ipswich, is famed for its serene beaches and also has The Broads National Park under its belt.

The town seems to be enjoying the benefits from a major revamp - with the beach huts newly-painted in pastel colours, and its restored pier giving it the drive it once had.

It seemed to be plagued with negative "run-down" reviews on TripAdvisor between 2021 and 2022 - with some people claiming the town was looking tired. But critics' opinions have been changing thanks to a £24.9m levelling up Towns Fund.

Now, it is abuzz with street food vendors, and an emerging arts' theme is catapulting the seaside town into the running of being one of the cooler destinations to visit.
