'Woke' university demands students not use term 'illegal immigrants'
The institution argued the term could cause offence and suggested students use the word "undocumented" to refer to anyone illegally entering the country.
A London university has urged students to stop using the term "illegal immigrant" in its latest woke guidance.
London Metropolitan University has called on members of staff and students to adopt the term "undocumented" as it argued the other terminology is dehumanising.
The institution also targeted additional words, urging students to switch "crazy" and "mad" when describing great events for "bananas."
The university insisted it wanted to adopt words "that signify respect, recognise the nuances of our lived experience, and promote equitable outcomes."
On its website, London Metropolitan University suggested the traditional "Welcome ladies and gentlemen" greetings should give way to the more inclusive "Welcome everyone."
The gender-neutral "partners" should be favoured over husbands and wives, while mums and dads should be described as "caregivers" or "parents."
The decision sparked ridicule, with Tory politician Nigel Mills dismissing it as "ludicrous woke nonsense."
Mr Mills told The Sun: "Illegal migrant is a simple factual term for someone who’s not come to the UK legally.
“Surely universities have better uses for tuition fees than paying people to come up with this rubbish.”

But a spokesperson for the university insisted the institution aims to ensure every one of its 12,500 students and staff feels included.
They said: "We take pride in our diverse community and our commitment to creating a welcoming environment where all students can succeed.
“This is not about political correctness; it’s about ensuring everyone feels valued.
