Holiday plans of people in the UK have plunged into chaos after a major operator plunged into insolvency. Many Brits were threatened with having to leave their hotels or even pay for their room twice.

Europe’s third largest tour operator FTI group filed for insolvency in Germany. The firm is the parent company of two holiday providers that supply Loveholidays, which had admitted some of its customers may be impacted by the news. The Group announced that from June 4 it will be forced to council or only partially fulfil all booked trips, leaving thousands of travellers abandoned.

Holidaymakers at La Branda Targa, Morocco all received slips demanding they go down to the reception. Crowds of people filled the foyer where people were told they had to pay for their room again or risk being kicked out that night.

Jessica Birch told the Express she was told she would have to leave her hotel that night or pay a whopping £1,000 to keep her hotel room in Morocco-double the amount she had originally paid.

Jessica and her partner arrived at their hotel on June 2 and had booked to stay until June 9.

She said: “We were told we had to leave the hotel that night because it had not paid. As there were a lot of us, we all refused to leave the hotel.

“We explained many times that we paid our holiday in advance and we were not going to pay again. The manager was extremely rude and demanded that we all pay £1000 to keep our room for the week. This is what we didn’t understand because we actually only paid about £500 for the room.

“We went and got dressed for the evening, they were still allowing us to have food and drink as we are all inclusive.

“Towards the end of the night we noticed some young girls crying at the bar as their room key was locked and the hotel would not allow them access to the room. The reception refused to help unless they paid their bill.

“There are quite a few guests here with families and they have been paying per day to stay at the hotel because they are scared for their children.

“We have spoken to Loveholidays via Twitter with no response, messaged them on Facebook with no response, My partner has spoken to them on the live chat twice and both times he has been booted from the chat.

“This should not be our responsibility to solve. It should be Loveholidays and the hotel's responsibility to communicate”

A Loveholidays spokesperson said: “Earlier this week the FTI Group, the parent company of one of our many accommodation and transfer suppliers, Youtravel, filed for insolvency. Only a very small portion of our customers are affected by this and we are working hard to minimise disruption to their holidays.

"We are aware that a small number of hotels are asking affected customers who are in-resort to pay for their rooms again. We are absolutely committed to covering these costs and are working with affected customers, and the hotels involved, to make sure this happens. This is a fast moving situation, so we will remain in touch with affected customers as the situation progresses and are very sorry for the inconvenience."

La Branda Targa was conatcted for comment.
