Outrage at Marks & Spencer's extra-large uniforms for children aged four
CAMPAIGNERS against obesity have expressed “shock” over Marks & Spencer’s new range of super-size school uniforms for children as young as four.
The chain’s website is now offering 23in waist trousers for youngsters just starting primary school – a size normally worn by eight-year-olds.
But the store, which as yet is selling its Plus range online only, claimed that demand from parents was “significant.”
The range, aimed at four to 16-year-olds, features garments as big as a women’s size 18, with 43in chest, 36in waist and 46in hips.
Tam Fry, of the National Obesity Forum, said: “It is shocking that we now have children who are so big they have to have oversized clothes when they are just starting junior school.”
