The twenty UK seaside towns and villages that get more rain than any others
If you're heading to any of these destinations this year, make sure you bring a brolly.
Internationally renowned for being rainy throughout all four of the year's seasons, our country gets more than its fair share of precipitation.
And as much as the drizzly stereotype is a little unfair (Dungeness in Kent has been referred to as 'England's only desert'), some areas of the country really do get a good drenching more than others. For those planning staycations this year, it would be useful to know which areas of the country suffer the most frequent downpours.
But which seaside towns are the UK's wettest? Are they all in northern Scotland or Northern Ireland? Manchester is known for being rainy, are the wettest locations found around the coast nearest there?
Now researchers at Sykes Holiday Cottages alongside ex-BBC weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans have crunched the numbers and found out.
As it turns out, anyone guessing that the rainiest seaside towns in the country must be found in Scotland would be correct. Five of the top six locations on the list can be found north of Hadrian's Wall.
However, as you move further down the list a pattern emerges - all of the remaining locations are in western areas of the UK.
Blackpool in Lancashire is 20th in the list, only a couple of places below Slapton in Devon, which itself is three places below Helen's Bay in County Down, Northern Ireland.
Seemingly the key to avoiding inclement conditions, whether you're in northern or southern areas is to head east.
