British lobsters under threat
BRITISH lobsters are under threat from a 3ft American super-species released into the sea by misguided animal lovers.
Fishermen on the south coast fear the aggressive trans-Atlantic lobsters, which weigh up to three stone, could damage valuable stocks and cause an environmental disaster.
Chris Parry, chairman of the Marine Management Organisation, said people were buying them from restaurants “then releasing them because they feel sorry for them”.
British lobsters are easily killed by “red tail” bacteria carried by the US interlopers.
Releasing them into the sea carries a fine of up to £5,000.
