Gypsies invade top posh school
GYPSIES have also set up home on a sports field owned by one of Britain’s top public schools, it was confirmed yesterday.
Police confirmed that about 10 caravans pitched up last week on the field used and owned by Rugby School.
It is understood the school has sought an injunction to force the gypsies to move from its land.
Police will not be intervening. A spokesman said that as the field was privately owned, they only had powers to ensure there is no breach of the peace.
The £28,000-a-year school, in Warwickshire, has not commented, but is said to have re-arranged games to be played on some of the 27 rugby, football and cricket pitches at two polo grounds not affected by the invaders.
Rugby alumni include Sir Salman Rushdie, Rupert Brooke and former PM Neville Chamberlain.
