Casas Cuna shelter in Puntarenas, in Costa Rica, took on the pooch after her original owners said they were unable to look after her or pay for the treatment she needed.
A mutant puppy born with five legs and two tails has left dog shelter staff baffled.
Casas Cuna shelter in Puntarenas, in Costa Rica, decided to take care of the little puppy after its original owners said they were unable to look after her or pay for the treatment she needed.
The rescue centre, who have named the pooch Mia, have been providing regular updates on her progress.
In a recent update, the centre shared a video of the puppy drinking from a bowl of water with the message: “Watch Mia drinking water. We are busy deworming. She has lots of bugs.”
The dog’s extra foot and tail are located by her spine, next to her stomach.

According to Casas Cuna founder Sharon Solano, the mutant pooch relieves herself through both of the latter.
However, the process has reportedly caused some discomfort and as a result, Casas Cuna is seeking financial help so the puppy can undergo surgery.
To understand the dog’s condition, the vets will have to carry out an X-ray and and ultrasound to decide how can they move forward with her treatment.
The shelter said: “Your help is essential, it will be expensive but the puppy is a priority.”
Mia's siblings were all born normally and have already been adopted by local families.
