Morrisons 2p petrol cut in new war at pumps
SUPERMARKET Morrisons fired the opening shots in another fuel price war yesterday by knocking 2p off a litre of petrol and diesel.
It means prices at its 293 forecourts have dropped by 5p in a week.
High Street competitor Asda hit back by cutting the cost of a litre of unleaded to 113.9p and diesel to 116.9p.
Other supermarkets are expected to follow.
It is the second front in a price war which started less than a week ago. Last Thursday, Asda slashed its pump prices by 2p.
Two weeks ago average UK petrol prices reached an all-time high of 121.61p a litre – £5.52 a gallon.
The cuts come just ahead of a Bank Holiday weekend of traffic misery, with 15 million cars expected on the roads.
