Migrants sneak in...by F1
A GANG of illegal immigrants sneaked into Britain by hiding inside trucks owned by Formula 1 billionaire Bernie Ecclestone as they returned from the Monaco Grand Prix.
The five stowaways, believed to be from Eritrea, scrambled on board the canvas-sided trucks at Calais.
They escaped detection by Border Agency staff and were only discovered when Mr Ecclestone’s crew began unloading the trucks at the company’s Biggin Hill base in Kent last week.
Staff called police, who arrested the gang and handed them over to the Border Agency. The Formula One Management trucks were carrying broadcasting equipment used at the Grand Prix on May 16.
A spokesman for FOM said the driver was shocked to discover the men. He added: “This is the first time we have had such a problem.”
Mr Ecclestone, 79, built his empire by selling the TV rights for F1 races.
Last week, three illegal immigrants got into the UK via Calais by clinging to the bottom of a school bus.
