Police scrambled after man 'attacked with hammer' in designer watch robbery attempt

Police are on the scene after a man was allegedly attacked with a hammer during a brutal attempt to rob him of his designer watch - possibly a Rolex. Eyewitnesses said the victim, aged in his 50s, was rumoured to be have been savagely beaten outside the Heath Way shops in Shard End, Birmingham, with pictures showing police have up a blue tent at the scene.
A large number of police and paramedics descended on the scene earlier this afternoon, where a blue tent has since been erected.
One onlooker, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "A 50-year-old bloke has been attacked with a hammer or something similar for his Rolex.
"It was crazy, there were police helicopters overhead and dozens of police and ambulances.
"All this was happening at the end of the school day.
"There were kids around, it’s terrible.
"A blue tent has since been set up. It doesn't look good."
West Midlands Police would only confirm they had responded to an 'incident' which was still ongoing.
A force spokesperson said: "We currently have officers at shops in Heath Way in Shard End, Birmingham, while we respond to an incident.
"There is a cordon in place and we'll provide more information when we have a fuller understanding of what has happened."
