Jersey potato crop is hit by drought
DINNER time favourite Jersey Royal potatoes could be off the menu this spring as drought threatens to devastate the crop.
Mike Renourd, technical director of the Jersey Royal Company, said: “It’s looking like the first half of the crop will have a significant yield reduction.”
The channel island has been hit by its worst drought in 34 years and weather forecasters are not predicting any rain for another two weeks.
