London's Science Museum evacuated: Emergency at vaccine centre as public told to stay away
LONDON'S Science Museum, which is also currently acting as a Covid vaccination centre in the capital, was evacuated as a "precaution" on Sunday afternoon.
The popular attraction had written on Twitter: "The museum has been evacuated as a precaution. We will share more updates shortly." Kensington and Chelsea Police wrote on Twitter: "Police were called to the Science Museum in Exhibition Rd, SW7 at approx 13:06 hrs after concerns were raised by a rucksack. Officers attended and buildings evacuated. A cordon was put in place and roads closed during investigations. The cordon has now been lifted"
Replying to the tweet from the Science Museum, one person said they had been told by a security guard at the museum that a "suspicious bag" had been found.
They wrote: "Security guard told us they found a suspicious bag and didn't know what was in it.
"Got everyone out."
Another Twitter user wrote: "Was meant to come this afternoon but got turned away."
Other people who have vaccination jabs at the museum later today asked if they would be going ahead or whether they should rebook their appointments.
One person said: "Thanks. Would be helpful to know about whether to come back later for vaccination or if we need to rebook."
The museum replied: "The vaccination centre is now readmitting patients.
"If you have an appointment for today please come along.
"You may have to wait slightly longer than usual but the team is committed to seeing anyone that has an appointment today."
The museum later tweeted it had "reopened to visitors".
Last Friday, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge received her first dose of the coronavirus vaccine at the Science Museum.
Kensington Palace staff shared an image on behalf of Kate on the Cambridges’ Twitter page.
The photo’s caption read: “Yesterday I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at London’s Science Museum.
“I’m hugely grateful to everyone who is playing a part in the rollout – thank you for everything you are doing.”
A week earlier, Prince William received his vaccination at the museum before he left for a short tour of Scotland.
Sharing a picture of his vaccination on Twitter, the Duke of Cambridge wrote: "On Tuesday I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
"To all those working on the vaccine rollout - thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do."
