London mayor election RECAP: Sadiq Khan re-elected - but records WORSE than expected vote
LABOUR's Sadiq Khan was re-elected Mayor of London - but recorded a much worse number of votes than expected.
Sadiq Khan: Election results ‘on a knife edge’ says Tice
Mr Khan did not have an easy walk to victory, leaving his record 2016 victory as a distant memory. Conservative candidate Shaun Bailey exceeded expectations, leaving the Labour incumbent relying on votes redistributed from smaller parties to see him over the line.
Mr Khan - the former MP for Tooting - has been the mayor of London for the past five years.
Khan was expected to completely wipe the floor with the other candidates.
Bailey secured both Ealing and Hillingdon, and Brent and Harrow - both of which were under Labour control five years ago.

A March opinion poll forecasted that Khan would win more than half of the total vote.
That would have seen him declared the mayor of London after the first round of counting.
However, if Bailey continues to put the pressure on Labour, it will force a second round of votes.
It's still expected that Labour will retain City Hall, however.
