Birmingham: Police cordon in place after shooting in Lozells
Police were alerted to the incident in Aston just after 12.30pm. The man is being treated but the extent of his injuries is not yet known.
The area around the junction of Wheeler Street and Lozells Road has been cordoned off.
There is a heavy police presence at the scene near the Sri Dasmesh Sikh Temple.
Bishop Desmond Jaddoo, who works with the community to tackle rising violence, said shots being fired in the area is not unusual.
He told Birmingham Live: “It is of concern that this incident happened in broad daylight in front of the passing public and motorists on a very busy road.
“It is clear that a lot of work still needs to be done particularly in the vicinity of Wheeler Street and Lozells Road where shots being fired is not an unusual occurrence.
“Our thoughts go out to the injured person’s family and it is clear that this cycle of violence is escalating and more intensive work needs to be done between the police and community in order to make a substantial difference.”
West Midlands Police is urging anyone with information to contact them.
In a statement on Twitter, the force said: “We were called to #Lozells Road in #Aston at 12.35pm today to reports of shots being fired.
