Leamington Spa: Three-year-old dies after being hit by car in 'terrible incident'
A THREE-YEAR-OLD girl has died a day after being hit by a car in Leamington Spa, local police have confirmed.
The little girl suffered severe head injuries when a black Skoda Citigo crashed into her on Brunswick Street in Leamington Spa at 5.45pm on Friday. The child was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment but sadly succumbed to her injuries.
A 32-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Superintendent Emma Bastone from Warwickshire Police appealed for witnesses to come forward to help officers with their investigation.
Police are particularly keen to speak with the driver of a Mazda who was driving behind the Skoda when it crashed into the toddler.
Supt Bastone said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of the little girl following this terrible incident.
“We have launched a thorough investigation into how the collision occurred and we’re keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the child or the car in the moments leading up to the collision.
“We’re also keen to speak to the driver of a silver or blue Mazda we believe was driving behind the Skoda at the time of the collision but left the scene.

“We’d like anyone in the area with CCTV or dash cam footage from the time of incident to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can check it for evidence.”
The identity of the girl has not been released.

Away from the incident in Leamington Spa, a man was "seriously injured" in an attack at Thorpe Park Resort in Surrey this afternoon.
The theme park was put into lockdown and police reportedly prevented visitors from leaving the site while they dealt with the incident, which is not being treated as terror-related.
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
An altercation between two groups is understood to have broken out on the theme park's footbridge shortly before 5pm.
The victim suffered a slash wound to his stomach.
