Vettriano’s heart still in Kingdom
THE latest paintings by millionaire artist Jack Vettriano were unveiled yesterday in the opulent members room of the Monaco Yacht Club.
And, despite tempting offers to exhibit his new paintings at other equally glamorous locations, Fife-born Vettriano is adamant that the only other place they will be shown will be in the rather less exotic location of Kirkcaldy.
He said: “I have a great loyalty towards Fife and that’s why I want to exhibit the collection there.”
Kirkcaldy’s Museum and Art Gallery is the only place to have a permanent Vettriano exhibition, with claims that the Scottish art establishment look down on his work.
The 57-year-old self-taught artist, whose most famous work is The Singing Butler, has completed 10 paintings commissioned by the yacht club.
They are inspired by the centenary of the Clyde-built yacht Tuiga, which the club now owns, and which is 100 years old tomorrow.
