Three-day-old baby tragically dies after mother tested positive for coronavirus
A THREE-day-old baby died after his mother tested positive for coronavirus in Wales an inquest has heard today.

Coolio Carl Justin John Morgan was born on May 2 at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, but died three days later in Swansea. The primary cause of death was listed as severe hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy, meaning the brain is starved of blood and oxygen. Maternal COVID-19 was listed as a secondary cause of death.
During the hearing at Pontypridd Coroner's Court, it was revealed the baby had fetal bradycardia, which is a low heart rate.
The newborn was transferred to Singleton Hospital in Swansea but died on May 5.
Senior coroner's officer, Lauren Howitt revealed the mother tested positive for COVID-19 shortly after the birth.
A further inquest will be conducted by coroner Graeme Hughes on April 28, 2021.
No post-mortem was carried out.
Mr Hughes said: "I pass on my condolences to the family in these most sad and depressing circumstances."
Last week NHS England confirmed a six-week-old baby had died from coronavirus.
The infant passed away on May 3 and is the youngest victim to have died directly from COVID-19.

The oldest victim of the virus was 103-year-old.
At the time of writing, the UK has risen by 494 according to the Department of Health and Social Care.
Of those deaths, 244 were reported in hospital in England.
There were a further 61 in Scotland, 22 in Wales and two in Northern Ireland.

The overall death total now stands at 33,186 according to official statistics.
As of 9am, a total of 229,705 people have been diagnosed.
A further 1.52 million people have now been tested, including 87,063 yesterday.
Boris Johnson has now revealed the UK will target 200,000 a day by the end of this month.
Mr Johnson also unveiled the Government's phased approach to taking the UK out of the lockdown.
Under the approach, today people in England will now be able to exercise multiple times a day and will be able to see one person outside of their household.
As of today, people who work in construction, manufacturing, research facilities, laboratories, those who administer takeaways or food deliveries, tradesman or those who facilitate trade will be able to return.
Some non-essential businesses may return next month if the infection rate continues to remain low.
