US SECRETARY of State Mike Pompeo expressed great gratitude for the "historic relationship" with the UK and insisted Britain is "front of the line" for a post-Brexit trade deal.
Brexit: UK is at 'front of line for trade deal' says Mike Pompeo
Britain’s exit from the European Union is only hours away and the next stage of a post-Brexit trade deal is hot on UK politicians' minds. US secretary of state Mike Pompeo re-iterated a pledge that Britain would be at the front of the queue for a trade deal after Brexit at a Policy Exchange event in Westminster. He said: ”The previous administration took the view that if the United Kingdom made this decision it would be at the back of the line.
"We intend to put the United Kingdom at the front of the line.
“This is a historic relationship between our two countries.
“Save for that moment we busted away a couple of hundred years ago, it has been fantastic.
“You talked about trade deal and economics, we already have.
“The trade relationships, we share so much.
“The rule of law, talented human capital and democracy are the things that bring people to do great things together.
“Our two nations share that.
“That is why we intend to continue to take the relationship which we think is in a fantastic place today to put it in an even better place in weeks and months and years ahead.”

“You have the maturity and the bandwidth to deal with the creases and challenges.
“Mike and I both have confidence in the relationship to speak candidly with each other when we disagree.”
This faith in a strong relationship will likely better allow Boris Johnson to fulfil his promises to secure a successful partnership with other nations post-Brexit.
