Police probe horror at flat
POLICE inquiries continued yesterday into a suspected murder and suicide, after the bodies of a man and an elderly woman were found in an Edinburgh flat.
The 43-year-old man, named locally as Brian Rockall, is understood to have hung himself.
Police suspect the professional gambler committed suicide after stabbing his 81-year-old mother Valerie to death, after an argument over his debts.
The grim discovery was made in Dean Village on Monday night after a call from a member of the public. The man and woman have yet to be formally identified.
The flat’s owner called the police after attempting to contact his tenants for several weeks.
Neil Harper said: “I knew she was quite poorly and they weren’t responding to my calls.
“I was obviously concerned about what was going on.”
