Sats results 2019: How to convert ks2 results to scaled scores
THE SAT results for Key Stage 2 were released this week - but how do you work out how to convert your child’s KS2 results into scaled scores? Here is everything you need to know.
Cambridge students celebrate end of exams at May Ball
Year 6 pupils have received their marks in the Key Stage 2 results in the standard attainment tests - commonly known as SATS. The national tests, taken by pupils in May, test skills in Maths, English reading, plus English grammar, punctuation and spelling. The examinations are a measure of how well state-funded schools are doing. But obviously, the exams are a big deal for pupils and parents too as they are a good marker of individual performance.
Key Stage 2 assessments take place when children are aged 10 or 11 in Year 6 of primary school.
But many of them will have already been through the process having taken Key Stage 1 exams in Year 2 when they are aged six or seven.
The process of marking has changed in recent years after National Curriculum levels were scrapped in 2016.
That means the raw results must now be converted to a scaled score.
Each pupil must achieve between 100 and 120 on the scaled score in order to achieve the expected standard.
The lowest possible score is 80 while the highest score is 120.
Pupils awarded with a scaled score of 99 or less will have not met the expected standard.
Checking how the raw scores equate to the scaled score is simple - you just need to check the table provided by the Education Department.
However, the levels are different for each examination.
These are raw scores needed for each test in the Key Stage 2 results 2019 and how they convert to the scaled score:
- Maths: 58 out of 110 = 100 on the scaled score
This is down from 61 in 2018.
- Reading: 28 out of 50 = 100 on the scaled score
This is the same as in 2018.
- Grammar, punctuation and spelling: 36 out of 70 = 100 on the scaled score
This is down from 2018.
The results are also available in a table published on the Government website.
