Lord Adonis confronted by Labour voter who is abandoning Corbyn – 'People DESERTING you'
LORD ADONIS was confronted with the possibility of missing out on his chance to win a seat at the European Parliament on a Labour ticked due to the party's stance on Brexit.
Brexit: Lord Adonis SLAMMED for 'deserted Labour Party'
Lord Adonis had Channel 4 News' political editor Gary Gibbons challenge him on his chances to win a seat for Labour at the May 23 European elections. Mr Gibbons accompanied the MEP-hopeful on a round of door-to-door visits in Bristol to confront him about the different stance the peer and the party have on Brexit. Reading Lord Adonis' electoral leaflet, the political editor said: "Vote for Labour to stay in and for a second referendum? That’s not exactly the policy, is it?
"You are giving a short time version of your policy because you are worried people are deserting you for parties who are more clearly identifiably pro-Remain."
Lord Adonis said his message was in line with the Brexit policy of the Labour Party, which last month agreed to back a second referendum in the event the British Government refused to change the current deal Theresa May is proposing.
But Mr Gibbons hit back: "I heard you saying something much more – what do you want the policy to be?
"Not the policy Jeremy Corbyn spent five hours at the National Executive Committee (NEC) making sure it was which is a policy that still faces both ways."

Brexit: Kate Hoey reveals the 'appeal' of Nigel Farage
Lord Adonis, who in April was forced to apologise after suggesting Brexiteers should not vote for Labour because the party would stop Brexit, insisted the policy agreed at NEC meeting justified his claim on the commitment to a second referendum.
He said: "The policy is very clear.
"Any Tory deal and the only deal on the table at the moment is the Tory deal, we favour a referendum."
His conviction was however tested on the road after a woman informed the Labour peer she and her family will not be backing the party in the upcoming European elections.
The Bristol resident said: "I’m terribly sorry but we are going to vote Green.
"They have steadfastly been pro-Europe right from the beginning.
"We have to send a message to Labour that they’ve been sitting on the fence far too long."
During the local elections earlier this month, both Labour and the Conservatives haemorrhaged seats, with many voters savaging leaders Jeremy Corbyn and Theresa May for the poor handling of Brexit.
The vote was used as a protest by many voters who are dissatisfied with the overall handling of Brexit. Ballots were handed in with “Brexit” scrawled over the front instead of an indicated vote.
Theresa May and Mr Corbyn have been engaged in ongoing talks to find common ground on potential changes to the withdrawal deal but so far to no avail.
Facing increasing pressure from her party and voters, Mrs May announced on Tuesday she will be holding a fourth vote on the divorce agreement in the first week of June.
The latest YouGov survey of voter intentions puts the Tories trailing in fifth place behind Nigel Farage’s eurosceptic Brexit Party, Labour, Liberal Democrats and the Green Party.
The poll of 2212 voters conducted between May 8 and May 9 on behalf of the Times put the Brexit Party at 34 percent while Mrs May was projected to win a meager 10 percent of the vote.
