Rose West: Jury had unanimous verdict reveals documentary
Doctors told the 65-year-old murderer she is so seriously overweight she is at risk of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes. She has ballooned to such an extent she often needs help getting off the toilet. Prison staff are now preparing low carbohydrate meals to help her drastically shed several stones after she became dangerously large behind bars.
Britain’s most notorious killer was jailed in 1995 after being convicted of 10 murders with her husband Fred.
He killed himself in prison while awaiting trial for the series of murders committed between 1973 and 1987, including their eight-year-old daughter.
Most of the murders were committed at their Gloucester home, dubbed the House of Horrors.
Fred and Rose West victim recalls moment she was almost killed
West is unlikely to ever be released from HMP Low Newton in Durham where she is serving a life sentence.
She also suffers from extremely high blood pressure and is regularly left out of breath after gorging on a diet of crisps and chocolate.
It was revealed last month that West even won a cake baking competition while behind bars.
West has opted to go on a keto diet meaning she can not consume more than 20g of carbohydrates or more than 1,500 calories per day.
The diet switches the body’s main source of energy from glucose to fat and is favoured by celebrities after a quick weight loss fix.
One prison source told the Daily Star: "West has been told on a number of occasions that she is dangerously overweight.
"She has opted to go on the keto diet, which promises rapid weight loss quickly if you stick strictly to the rules.
"She is so heavy that she is often out of breath and sometimes has to have help getting off the toilet."
West’s new diet will consist of healthy sources of food including fish, salads and vegetables while pasta, bread, potatoes and anything sugary will be off the menu.
Throughout her trial West maintained her innocence, claiming she was another victim of her husband’s murderous campaign but a jury at Winchester Crown Court found her guilty for her part in the killings.
