In September London Mayor Sadiq Khan announced the creation of a new Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).
This incorporated the Metropolitan police, local authorities, health services and youth workers.
However the new unit has already come under criticism.
The London Assembly’s Police and Crime Committee wrote to the Mayor arguing the unit focuses too narrowly on gangs.
They added the initial £500,000 funding is “far from sufficient to resource the unit over the long term”.
