Manchester stabbing: Co-op shop worker knifed during botched robbery in Whalley Range
A CO-OP shop worker was stabbed at a branch in Whalley Range, Manchester while chasing after a robber.
A 46-year-old was stabbed after the store manager ran after the thief, according to witnesses.
Blood covered the floor this morning as a heavy police presence was seen at the Withington Road store.
An eyewitness said: “There was blood everywhere on the floor. There are a lot of police.”
A nearby cafe owner told the Manchester Evening News: “Someone was stealing something and the manager ran after him.”
We got a call at 7.24am this morning to Withington Road. It was reports that a male had been stabbed.
The North West Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance and took the man to hospital.
A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We got a call at 7.24am this morning to Withington Road. It was reports that a male had been stabbed.
"We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance. We took one patient to hospital."
Police have since said he has been discharged from hospital after suffering “superficial injuries”.
A cordon is in place while police investigate and work to find the offender.

A spokesman for the Co-op said: "Our thoughts are with a colleague who has been taken to hospital following an incident at our Whalley Range store around 7:30am this morning.
"Police are investigating, and we appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 7.20am on Friday 19 October 2018, police were called to reports that a man had been stabbed at the Co-op on Withington Road in Whalley Range.
“Officers attended and a 46-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.
“No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.”
