Birmingham stabbing: Two boys, 13 and 14, arrested after teen stabbed in back in park
TWO teenage boys aged 13 and 14 have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a horrific knife attack in a park.
Birmingham stabbing: Police cordon off area in Handsworth Park
The youngsters are being questioned by police after a 16-year-old boy was chased and stabbed in the back in Handsworth Park, Birmingham.
A 15-year-old girl also suffered injuries during the assault, which took place on the evening of Bank Holiday Monday at around 6pm.
Police say the male victim was chased and kicked to the floor following an "altercation between a group of children" before being knifed in the back.
He suffered serious internal injuries including a punctured lung and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
This was a very nasty incident and one that has left a teenage boy with injuries that will have life-long implications for him.
The 13-year-old suspect was arrested as he attended Birmingham Magistrates Court in connection with an unrelated fight in the city centre.
The other youth surrendered to police after detectives launched an appeal for witnesses earlier this week.
Both are from the Handsworth area of the city.
Inspector Greg Evans from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: "This was a very nasty incident and one that has left a teenage boy with injuries that will have life-long implications for him.
"We believe there was some kind of altercation between two groups of children which rapidly escalated and resulted in a stabbing.
"If anyone has any information about the attack or who may be responsible - or anyone who witnessed the attack at 6.40pm on Monday or people fleeing the park - I would appeal to them to get in touch."
Anyone with information on the stabbing is asked to call West Midlands Police on 101 quoting log 2003 of August 27.
