Jason Manford on This Morning talking about Stephen Sutton
During an appearance on This Morning today, the 33-year-old comedian was asked by Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield about his friendship with Stephen and the fact that he's been awarded an MBE in the Queen's birthday honours list.
"It was really a tough secret that one, but it was lovely," Jason said. "It was nice for his family - who are such a sweet family- and he just deserved it.
"It was so nice and I don't think anyone could say he didn't deserve that."
He was just an inspiring boy. Even now when I have those days, I think of Stephen and his message to live for the moment. It is just life affirming
Speaking about the campaign, which has so far raised £4.2million, Jason added: "It was an amazing thing to be part of. I went to his funeral and are still in touch with Stephen's family."
He continued: "After his death, I thought 'I better just leave them alone for a bit,' but they got in touch with me because they want to keep the momentum going, so I'll do that as best as I can."
"He was just an inspiring boy. Even now when I have those days, I think of Stephen and his message to live for the moment. It is just life affirming," he added.
Jason also touched upon the charity concert which is he organising for later on in the year, following Stephen's death in May.
The Smile for Stephen show will take place at Birmingham's LG Arena and is set to feature some of the UK's biggest pop stars and comedians.
