NASA news: Astronaut shares stunning picture of Earth at night - 'Let there be light'
NASA astronaut Jessica Meir took this breathtaking picture of the Earth lit by the glare of the Moon.
NASA: Time-lapse shows incredible view of Earth
The NASA astronaut's picture was snapped about 250 miles (402km) above the planet. Dr Meir is one of the three people currently living and working on the International Space Station (ISS), where the astronauts have front-row seats to the greatest view in the solar system.
And when the astronauts are not busy with their experiments, they will often point their cameras out the space station's windows.
In this case, Dr Meir took a picture of Earth on a particularly bright night.
She tweeted to her more than 209,600 followers: "Is it day or is it night? #NoFilter here, while taking photos of the night sky a few weeks ago, the Moon was so bright it lit up the Earth below.
"Goodnight Earth, let there be light! #GoodnightFromSpace #EarthStrong"

And on Monday, she shared a picture snapped when the ISS was passing over Algeria.
The photo features intricate geological features in the ground that resemble a quartz crystal.
Goodnight Earth, let there be light
Dr Meir tweeted: "Sending positive Monday vibes to Mother Earth and all of her inhabitants.
"She still looks equally as stunning from up here on @Space_Station.

Interesting facts about the Space Station:
The International Space Station has been in continuous use since the year 2000, housing astronauts from all around the globe.
The main contributors to the ISS project are the US, Russia, Japan, Canada and Europe through the European Space Agency (ESA).
The ISS was constructed across 47 assembly flight, 37 of which were on the US space shuttle and five on Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets.
NASA has contracted SpaceX to resupply the ISS with cargo and experiments.
The ISS completes 16 laps around the Earth every 24 hours, completing an orbit every 90 minutes.
In a bid to prevent muscle and bone loss in space, the astronauts have an onboard gym they use for two hours every day.
A spacecraft launched from Earth can reach the ISS in as little as six hours.
The space station houses six astronauts at once but can host more if need be.
Since December 1998, astronauts on the ISS have conducted more than 200 maintenance and repair spacewalks to keep the station in top shape.
