The two Princes’ have said during the 20 years since her passing that it was now the time to honour their mother with a statue outside her former home.
The brothers said in January when the project was announced: "It has been 20 years since our mother's death and the time is right to recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue.
"Our mother touched so many lives. We hope the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and her legacy."

No date has formally been set for when the artwork will be erected, although it could possibly be put up later this year in the public gardens of the palace.
Diana’s sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale was part of a six-strong committee responsible for raising funds for the project.
Also involved on the committee includes Julia Samuel, who was a close friend of the Princess and now godparent to William’s son, Prince George.
The new monument is just one of a string of tributes to be made to the People’s Princess, who died on August 31 1997.
Duchess of Cambridge
On July 1 this year, which marks Diana’s birthday, a private service was held to commemorate her life by relatives of the Spencer family, William, Kate and Harry and the Cambridges' children Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
During the St James’s Palace ceremony, Prince William and Prince Harry hailed the “countless acts of compassion and bravery” displayed by her mother.
A new memorial garden, named the White Garden, has also been opened in honour of Diana at Kensington Palace.
Memories of Princess Diana’s life are embroided across the garden, including her famous white “Elvis” Catherine Walker dress.
