King Charles spotted back in London as he gets ready for prostate surgery
King Charles was pictured from afar as he was driven to Clarence House ahead of his imminent treatment for an enlarged prostate.
King Charles has arrived back in London ahead of his imminent prostate surgery this week. The monarch was spotted in a car with the windows cracked down as he was driven to Clarence House on Thursday afternoon.
The King is said to have flown back to the capital ahead of the procedure, due to take place on an unspecified day this week. He is being treated for an enlarged prostate, openly announced by Buckingham Palace last week.
Buckingham Palace said the King's condition is benign and that the procedure is "corrective" and that His Majesty will be stepping back from public duties for a short time while he recovers. This includes cancelling important meetings that were in his diary.
The exact procedure he is undergoing has not been specified. According to the NHS, an enlarged prostate is common in men over 50 and if benign, is not a "serious threat to health".
It's thought Charles decided to go public with his diagnosis in a bid to get other men experiencing symptoms to get themselves checked out.
Professor Maclaran, author of Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture, told Daily Express US: “This makes the king less of a remote figure in showing that he has a health problem to which many men can relate.
“I believe this definitely helps with his popularity in making him more relatable.”
The palace has not confirmed if Clarence House is where the King will reside and recover once the procedure has been done, but the abode itself is described by the Royal Family as "very much a home" which was adapted for the now King and Queen.
This week it has been reported the King has been "working from his bed", and has been taking Zoom calls with the Prime Minister as he nears the date of his surgery.

The spotlight has also centred on Princess Kate in recent days after the palace announced, just hours before the King, that she had undergone abdominal surgery and would remain in hospital for two weeks.
Pictures over the last week have shown Prince William arriving at the London Clinic to be by her beside, along with her mother Carole Middleton who is said to be "at the helm" with helping out with family life.
It's also said the Prince has cancelled all of his duties to support his wife and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Kate won't be back out for public visits now until after Easter.
