When is Theresa May's speech at the Conservative Party Conference 2017?
THERESA May will deliver a major speech at the Conservative Party Conference next week. But when is the Prime Minister’s speech?
Conservative Party Conference 2017: Theresa May's speech will be on Wednesday
When is Theresa May’s speech?
The Conservative Party Conference gets underway on Sunday October 1 at Manchester Central and will feature a number of speeches from leading Tories.
Theresa May is scheduled to speak on Wednesday October 4 at about 1pm.
The Prime Minister will be the final speaker of the conference, with a speech entitled “Building a country that works for everyone”.
Police in Manchester have bolstered security measures amid fears that some 50,000 protesters could descend on the conference this weekend.
Two major demonstrations are due to take place in the city on Sunday afternoon.
The People’s Assembly have organised protests on each day of the four-day conference to oppose austerity measures put in place by the Government.
Meanwhile, thousands of anti-Brexit campaigners have plans to march on St Peter’s Square.
Superintendent John O'Hare, who is running the police operation, said he expects protesters to act “responsibly”.
We expect that to come with a high degree of responsibility
Speaking on behalf of Greater Manchester Police, he said: “We have been really clear with protestors in saying that we are here to facilitate lawful and peaceful protest and we will do everything we can to enable them to exercise their right to free speech, their right to protest their right to voice their opinions.
"But what we have also been really clear in is, we expect that to come with a high degree of responsibility.”
About 1,000 officers will be on duty on Sunday after ugly scenes at last year’s conference saw demonstrators pelt journalists and party members with eggs.
