Nigel Farage has predicted that Sir Keir Starmer will be gone by the end of the month. The Prime Minister is battling for his political future amid the Lord Mandelson scandal after Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar called for him to quit yesterday in the latest blow.

Speaking to GB News, the Reform UK leader said in a message to Sir Keir: “It's over. It's done. The game's up, mate. Time you recognised it. I mean, look, how on earth can the Scottish parliamentary elections go ahead? You've got the leader of the Scottish party saying he doesn't support the national leader. That to me is the straw that does actually break the camel's back, and it's just now simply a matter of time.

“He's lost legitimacy. He's lost authority. Events have moved way beyond his control, and I'm afraid it's all down to his own grievous misjudgement." Asked when he thought the PM would be ousted, Mr Farage added: "I think he'll be gone before the end of the month. That is my view.”

The Prime Minister appeared to calm nerves among Labour MPs last night, and succeeded in having every Cabinet Minister tweet a supportive message. But the Gorton and Denton by-election at the end of this month could change the Prime Minister's position substantially.

Welsh Labour leader backs Starmer

Welsh Labour leader and First Minister Eluned Morgan backs Starmer and calls for "stability".

She says: “I support the Prime Minister in the job he was elected to do. After years of revolving-door leadership under the Conservatives, the country needs stability in an age of instability, and that matters for Wales.

"I had concerns that Peter Mandelson was incompatible with public office because of the company he kept. What has since come to light has only reinforced those concerns. These issues are deeply troubling not least because, once again, the voices of women and girls were ignored.

"That failure must be acknowledged and confronted honestly. Leadership means upholding standards and acting when they fall short. Ultimately, I judge any Prime Minister by a simple test: whether they deliver for Wales. I have been clear with Keir about what Wales needs. Action on the cost of living, investment in our economy and infrastructure, and a continued commitment to stronger devolution.

"My focus remains on leading Wales with integrity and delivering real change for people here.”

What's the PM up to today?

The Prime Minister will take part in a community visit in an attempt to show he is focused on easing the cost-of-living burden after chairing a routine meeting of his Cabinet, a day after his top ministers rallied round him.

Ministers urged not to follow Wes Streting's release of text with Mandelson - reports

Ministers have been banned from following Wes Streeting in preemptively releasing their texts with Lord Mandelson, the Sun has reported.

The Cabinet Office Propriety and Ethics team on Monday contacted ministers warning them not to publish anything within the scope of the Tories' Humble Address.

Some in Whitehall has deared that others would try to follow Mr Streeting to clear their names ahead of the official release of the documents, which is set to take weeks.

Diane Abbott sets out exact date Keir Starmer will go

Labour grandee Diane Abbott has set out the day she believes Keir Starmer will be forced out.

The former Labour frontbencher said MPs are keeping him on until the May local elections, so he has to own the disastrous results.

She told Channel 4 News last night: "I think the round of applause in the committee room just now was staged... Just as all the endorsements of PM Keir Starmer were staged"

Tories blast Ed Miliband's latest wind power announcement

The Tories have condemned Ed Miliband's big wind power announcement today.

Claire Coutinho MP, Shadow Energy Secretary, said: “Ed Miliband is loading more and more wind and solar onto the grid before the grid can handle it, that’s why we will be paying £8bn through our bills to wind and solar developers simply to turn off by 2030.

“The true cost of this power, once you add in network charges and backup, is far higher, so all this will do is make our electricity even more expensive.

“For a stronger economy and better living standards, we need to make electricity cheap. Cheaper electricity would also make electric heating and cars more appealing so it’s actually better for decarbonisation too. That’s why the Conservatives have a Cheap Power Plan to cut electricity bills by 20% now.”

Labour 'looked over the precipice' on Monday, Miliband admits

Ed Miliband tells BBC Breakfast that the Labour Party “looked over the precipice” on Monday and decided to stick with Keir Starmer.

Starmer's performance as PM 'nowhere near good enough', MP says

Labour MP Brian Leishman has said it was not a “miscalculation” of Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar to call on Sir Keir Starmer to resign.

The Alloa and Grangemouth MP also said that nothing has changed in his mind since Mr Sarwar’s announcement on Monday and he also still thinks the Prime Minister should step down.

Speaking on BBC Radio Scotland’s Breakfast programme he said: “I think it’s fair to say that Anas yesterday was honest, up front and very, very clear on his position.

“So I don’t think that can ever be represented as a miscalculation. I think what Anas said yesterday, he admitted it was a difficult decision for him but it was the right decision for Scotland, and that certainly chimes with the conversations that I’m having on the doorsteps in the Holyrood campaign.”

He added: “Anas yesterday was correct when he said in his assessment that Keir Starmer’s performance in his first 18 months has not been good enough.”

Asked whether he still thinks Sir Keir should resign he said: “Yes. Keir Starmer’s performance over his first 18 months in Government has been nowhere near good enough.”

Miliband: Starmer faced a moment of 'peril' on Monday

Ed Miliband said Sir Keir Starmer had faced a moment of “peril” on Monday.

The Energy Secretary told BBC Breakfast that “in a sense, yesterday was a moment of peril for the Prime Minister.”

“I make no bones about that but, as a collective body, the Cabinet, the Labour Party looked at the alternatives of going down this road of a chaotic leadership election, trying to depose a prime minister, and they said ‘no, that’s not for us’,” he added.
