Jeremy Corbyn’s supporters have raised £6,500 for a poll of which revealed the ousted Labour leader is set to lose his seat.

The independent candidate for Islington North was mocked by social media users when the results of the Survation projection were published tonight.

Pollsters have found that Corbyn is 14 points behind his Labour rival Praful Nargund, who is on 43%.

The poll, for Stats for Lefties and Novara Media, found that Corbyn as an independent was second, at 29% of the vote.

Chris Giles, an economics commentator, said: “Presumably not the result the sponsors of the poll wanted.”

Another social media user said: “No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, I think we can all agree that the fact Novara and LeftieStats have commissioned this is incredibly, incredibly funny.”

Ell Folan, who runs Leftie Stats, created a GoFundMe to raise funds for the poll.

On the page, they said: “The 2024 general election is here, and Jeremy Corbyn is running to be the independent MP for Islington North.

“But because it is a highly local contest, we have no idea how the voters there currently intend to vote. That’s where you come in. It’s time to do some polling!

“I'm aiming to raise £6,500 by 17th June so I can commission a voting intention poll of Islington North from Survation.

“I want to get this polling done as soon as possible, so I'm aiming to raise £6,500 by the 17th of June. If you can give even a few pounds, that will make a huge difference.”

In March 2023, Labour's National Executive Committee did not endorse Corbyn as a 2024 general election candidate.

In May 2024, after that election was called, Corbyn announced he would stand as an independent candidate. He was expelled from the Labour Party.
