Rishi Sunak came out fighting this morning, as he attempted to draw a line under last week's D-Day row. Speaking for the first time in two days to the media, the Prime Minister insisted he is "not going to stop fighting" ahead of the election.

He warned people not to "write him off", and addressing last week's D-Day controversy begged voters to "find it in their hearts to forgive me". He insisted that those angry with him should "look at my actions that I’ve taken as prime minister to support our armed forces".

However he hit back at Nigel Farage, who was yesterday accused of dogwhistle racism over his attack on the PM 'not understanding our culture'.

The Tory leader blasted the Reform UK leader's insinuation, saying: "I don’t think it’s good for our politics, or indeed, our country."

Speaking on a campaign visit in East Sussex, Mr Sunak vowed to "fight on" amid outlandish claims he could quit as Tory leader before the election.

Asked if he has considered quitting ahead of the election, Mr Sunak bluntly replied: “of course not”.

A passionate Mr Sunak said: "People are gonna say what they’re gonna say; what I’m doing is fighting very hard for every vote. I will keep doing that until the last day of this campaign. And I am very confident in the actions that we’re putting forward for the British people.”

“There’s lots of people who want to write me off, write this off, say this campaign or the election is a foregone conclusion. They’ve been saying that, by the way, since I’ve gotten this job.

"But the reality is, I’m not going to stop going. I’m not going to stop fighting for the future of our country. I believe in what we are doing.”

He insisted he is finding an “enormous amount of support” for the policies he’s putting forward.

Mr Sunak’s intervention in the election, his first since last week’s humbling apology for his D-Day snub, comes as former Home Secretary Suella Braverman said that Nigel Farage should be welcomed into the Conservatives.

Reform UK poses a major threat to the Conservatives, with many believing that the insurgent right-wing part could even overtake them in the polls in the coming days and weeks.

Asked if he was concerned about Reform UK, the Prime Minister insisted he’s “not really interested in Reform”.

“I’m interested in delivering for the British people with the agenda that I’m setting out.”

Yesterday Cabinet Minister Mel Stride insisted that there’s “no question” of Rishi Sunak quitting ahead of the election.

The denial came after Sky News host Trevor Phillips asked if Mr Sunak standing aside would help the party’s fortunes.

While he still trails Labour by a huge 20 points according to some polls, Mr Sunak received a boost this morning as it was revealed that over half of voters are yet to fully make up their minds.

A poll by YouGov for Times Radio found that just 43% of all voters have “definitely made up their mind and will not change”.

Meanwhile 23% have "probably decided and are unlikely to change their mind", while while 23% suggest they could change their mind before going to the polls.

LibDem support appears the flakiest, with just 41% of their supporters saying there's no chance they'll switch allegiance.

Mr Sunak will launch his manifesto tomorrow, with Tories hoping it will include enough eye-catching pledges to finally turn the tide and start narrowing the gap with Labour.

It’s reported it will include more attractive tax-cutting policies, including a commitment to cut another 2p of the rate of National Insurance.
