They're not nuts, honest! Squirrel rescued after getting itself trapped in a drain pipe
THESE animal welfare workers rescued an unlucky squirrel in a heroic recovery attempt.
The scared squirrel got stuck in the pipe after tying to avoid moving water
After several attempts, the squirrel bolted out of the drain pipe like it had been shot out of a canon in a recovery effort of epic proportions.
The squirrel, surrounded by moving water and unable to get out, was noticed by a passer-by and the Specialised Mobile Animal Rescue Team, were called in to save the day - using a 4x4 to safely enter the water before using a large net and a small stick to coax the squirrel out.
The SMART team had to enlist the help of their 4x4 John Deere Gator
The squirrel probably entered the drain pipe when the water around him began to rise
In a statement, LA Animal Services said: "The SMART team entered the LA river to rescue a squirrel trapped in a drain pipe surrounded by moving water.
"The squirrel probably entered the drain pipe when the water around him began to rise.
The team had to coax the squirrel out of the pipe making sure not to scare it
"Unable to get out without either being washed down the river or drowning, the squirrel stayed put until a Good Samaritan saw its predicament and called in SMART."
The brave animal was rescued and released to a safer area
The team used their newest piece of equipment for the first time - a 4x4 John Deere Gator and, after the rescue, the squirrel was released safely in a location away from the water.
