The global lingerie brand has made a surprising announcement
Victoria’s Secret is one of the most admired brands in the Western world.
The name is synonymous with perfectly proportioned models, glamorous catwalk shows and chic, sexy apparel.
But the brand, which is modelled by the likes of Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo, has made an announcement surely leaving many people disappointed.
Victoria’s Secret will be discontinuing its swimwear collection.
The brand has discontinued its swimwear collection
The announcement comes as the company appointed Jan Singer as its new CEO, following the sudden departure of Sharen Jester Turney.
Sharen left the lingerie giant in February, after a decade in the role.
Victoria’s Secret announced it would focus solely on its core lingerie business amidst various changes at the brand.
It also announced the discontinuation of its catalogue and has made its online merchandise offering the same as in-store.
We're making these changes proactively, from a position of strength and following a record fourth quarter and 2015 for the brand.
The company’s finance chief Stuart Burgdoefer told the Wall Street Journal: “We're making these changes proactively, from a position of strength and following a record fourth quarter and 2015 for the brand.
He added the swimwear line has been a: "flattish business for the last several years".
Commenting on the discontinuation of the brand’s physical catalogue, Stuart said: “If we were starting this business today in the current context of 2016, would you start with one of your major ideas being a catalogue - a paper-based catalogue sent through the mail - as one of your key, if not your key, marketing activity for a global brand?"
Last year’s infamous Victoria Secret show saw a leggy lineup of angelic goddesses strut their stuff down a catwalk in New York City.
The host of fierce faces included, for the first time, Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid.
Runway regulars and fabulous favourites Candice Swanepoel and Lily Aldridge also stalked down the catwalk.
New CEO Jan Singer will certainly have big shoes to fill when it comes to the hotly-anticipated event in 2016.
