Google Pixel 2 XL release date could be a disappointment as UK pre-order stock dwindles
GOOGLE looks like it's already running low on Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones – hours after the new flagship devices were announced in Mountain View, California. That’s great news for the US search company, but could leave fans disappointed on release day.
Google Pixel 2 XL stock levels are starting to run-out in the UK, hours after the phone launched
Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were unveiled at an exclusive media event in California earlier this week.
The new smartphones feature sport an improved 12MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing camera with Portrait Mode, fast-charging, and IP67 water and dust resistance.
Pixel 2 boasts a five-inch AMOLED display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, whereas Pixel 2 XL has a larger six-inch pOLED display with a 18:9 aspect ratio.
Both new smartphones are powered by Android 8.0 Oreo.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners will also benefit from unlimited cloud storage for photos and videos in their original quality via Google Photos.
Google Pixel 2 features the same trademark glass panel on the back of the phone as last year
That means Pixel 2 handsets will automatically back-up photos and videos in full 4K Ultra HD resolution so the smartphone never runs out of space.
Google ships its Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL devices in a range of colours with either 64GB or 128GB of onboard storage.
Pixel 2 is available three colours – Just Black, Clearly White, Kinda Blue – and will be available in-store on October 19th 2017.
The Pixel 2 XL is available in either Just Black or Black and White and starts to ship November 15th 2017.
Some Pixel 2 XL models have already started to slip to December
Pre-orders for the new handsets became available immediately after the Google announcement last night – and appear to have been extremely popular.
Shipping dates on a number of the new Pixel range – most notably, Pixel 2 XL – have already started to slip into December.
In the UK, those looking to order a Pixel 2 XL in Black and White with 64GB of memory won’t receive their new Android handset until December 2017.
Google is forecasting a five to six week delay for some Pixel models bought today
And those who want the same model with 128GB of storage doesn’t even come with an estimate shopping date – it simply asks buyers to join a waitlist.
Both 64GB and 128GB Pixel 2 XL models in Just Black will become available in “5 - 6 weeks”, Google estimates on its online store.
Pixel 2 stock levels seem to be fairing a little better, with many models still available to ship on the October launch date.
