Forget the Nokia 3310 - you can now buy a Nokia SMARTWATCH
NOKIA announces plans to rebrand Withings devices as it continues its remarkable comeback with wearable technology to go alongside its relaunched Nokia 3310.
Nokia shows off brand new 3310
Nokia is definitely enjoying its moment back in the spotlight.
The iconic Finnish technology manufacturer has recently hit the headlines following the relaunch of its classic Nokia 3310 smartphone at Mobile World Congress over the weekend.
However it seems that the company is not content to just stick to smartphones, as it has also revealed that you’ll soon be able to buy a Nokia smartwatch as well.
That’s because Nokia is looking to build on its existing partnership with French wearable technology firm Withings, which it bought back in June 2016.
Withings makes a number of smart watches, fitness devices, health monitors and more, all of which were acquired by Nokia in the deal.
Now, from this summer, all Withings products, including its smart home portfolio, will be rebranded with the Nokia name as the company attempts to benefit from its new higher profile.
The news was announced by Vice President of Digital Health, and former Withings CEO, Cédric Hutchings, who revealed the rebranding during Nokia’s launch event last night.
Nokia is about to reveal even more smart products
Withings said in a blog post that, “the name change is just the beginning”.
“We aim to take our vision of connected health even further with a number of exciting developments that will start rolling out this summer,” the company added.
First up will be a ‘complete redesign’ of the company’s Health Mate app, which will now feature unique coaching programs, and the launch of the Withings Patient Care solution, which will allow patients and caregivers to work more closely together.
The Nokia 3310 is set to ship later this year
MWC 2017 has been a major hit for Nokia.
The lead-up to the show had been dominated by reports that the company was planning to relaunch its class Nokia 3310 smartphone, and it delivered.
According to Nokia, the refreshed 3310 is “thin, light and incredibly durable”.
It ships with an incredible 22-hour talk-time and month long stand-by battery life, and comes with Snake preinstalled, as well as a full-colour display.
The new Nokia 3310 is available in four finishes – Warm Red and Yellow, both with a gloss finish, and Dark Blue and Grey both with a matte finish.
Nokia claims the refreshed Nokia 3310 will sell at an average global retail price of €49, some £41 converted.
