Wi-Fi often slows down at the most inconvenient times, like when you reach the crux of a film, or you're in the middle of a video meeting. Occasional buffering is common, but if your internet is consistently slow, you could try one trick first before having to call your internet provider.

Technology gurus revealed that one object in your home could be the reason behind your slow Wi-Fi. Audio Technica experts explained: "Many Wi-Fi routers transmit on multiple channels simultaneously, and if there are excessive Wi-Fi signals in close proximity taking up most of the spectrum, your Bluetooth devices may not have any open spectrum to frequency hop to."

It warned that keeping gadgets like Bluetooth speakers too close to your router could lead to the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi signals interfering with each other.

It added: "This is a common cause of Bluetooth interference. Moving your Bluetooth devices away from Wi-Fi signals will help maximise the performance."

This is because Bluetooth devices and Wi-Fi routers rely on similar radio frequencies, so when too many devices are competing for the same signals, it can create a jam.

Bluetooth speakers are not the only type of device that could come between you and your favourite Netflix show. Experts also revealed that devices such as baby monitors or even microwaves can interfere with the signals.

Redditors debated the topic, with one writing: "Moving my plugged in speaker closer and farther away from my router made the interference increase and decrease. Found noticeable interference placing the speaker within 1 feet of the router."

A second wasn't quite as sold, adding: "The definitive answer is 'maybe'."

To try and improve your internet speeds, try placing your router in a more central, open area of your home, and ideally away from the kitchen, or any thick walls that could block the signal. You can then test your speeds on an internet speed checker.
