Apple has revealed its latest software update will be available to download next week.

The highly-anticipated iOS18 was shown off yesterday as the tech giant unveiled its brand new AI-powered iPhone 16. But, the software update isn't just for those splashing out on the latest model.

On September 16, iOS18 will become available for anyone with an iPhone 12 or newer version. Apple Intelligence, its in-house AI, will launch later in October - but only for those with the latest iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16.

The software will allow greater personalisation, from being able to rearrange apps and widgets on the homescreen to designing a more complex Control Features.

A new photo gallery set-up will also help you flick through your images better, while iMessages can be scheduled in advance. iOS18 also brings greater privacy with the ability to Face ID protect apps and offline maps for hikes.

But one of the main talking points of the Apple Intelligence, which will also be available on certain models of iPads, Macs, and Macs, is 'Genmoji'.

"Taking emoji to an entirely new level, users can create an original Genmoji to express themselves," Apple said. "By simply typing a description, their Genmoji appears, along with additional options.

"Users can even create Genmoji of friends and family based on their photos. Just like emoji, Genmoji can be added inline to messages, or shared as a sticker or reaction in a Tapback."

Genmoji means pretty much any image can be captured into an emoji - from an angry duck stealing a loaf of bread to a cowboy with a nose piercing. But taking to X (formerly Twitter) many iPhone users warned the feature is likely to be misused. "No more aubgerine emojis needed," one person wrote - implying they can now send a genmoji of a penis.

"Trolls would have a field day using them," wrote another. A third added: "This will not end well," while a fourth penned: "Obvious things will be done."

However, others were quick to applaud the upcoming feature and didn't think of its potentially crass consequences.

"WHOA! That's awesome!" one person raved. Another agreed, commenting: "So cool," while a third branded it 'dope'.

Apple has been approached for comment.
