iPhone 13 announced with the battery life upgrade that Apple fans have been asking for
APPLE is back with a rebooted iPhone 13 that gets a much smaller notch, better camera, more storage for photos and improved battery life. Here's all you need to know about the new iPhone 13.
After months of endless rumours and speculation, Apple has finally lifted the lid on its all-new iPhone 13 smartphone range earlier this week. The new models will supersede the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 as the latest models from the Californian company. During the same keynote presentation, which was streamed from Apple's headquarters in California, the US company announced the iPhone 13 Pro series with re-engineered cameras and more battery life, an Apple Watch Series 7 with a bigger screen, a redesigned iPad mini, and dropped the price of its new entry-level iPad. Apple also used its annual September event to confirm when existing iPhone owners will be able to upgrade to iOS 15, bringing dozens of exciting new features for free.
iPhone 13 brings a bucket load of new changes, including a speedier A15 Bionic processor, hours more better battery life compared to the iPhone 12, and improved pictures and videos, thanks to a massive update to the rear camera. So, if you're in the market for a new iPhone here are the biggest upgrades coming to the entry-level mini and iPhone 13. And if you want to read about the differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro, find full details about the new flagship smartphones here.
First up, the single biggest change you'll instantly notice on the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini is a new look to the camera system. These improved lenses have now been moved into a diagonal pattern on the rear case with Apple promising improved pictures from this upgraded snapper. In fact, the wide-angle lens now gets the impressive sensor-shift optical image stabilisation that was found on last year's 12 Pro model. This boost the performance and image quality especially when taking images in low light.
Apple is also adding a clever Cinematic mode that can automatically change the focus when shooting movies making it simple to create your own mini-masterpiece. For creative control, the focus can even be changed during and after capture, and users can also adjust the level of bokeh in the Photos app and iMovie for iOS. Speilberg had better watch out!
Tucked under the shell is that latest and greatest A15 Bionic processor which is now much, much faster than before meaning it should be able to cope with the latest games and applications. Apple is boasting that it crushes the competition with speeds that are 50 percent better than its Android rivals.
Along with being far quicker, the A15 is also more efficient. Coupled with a lightly chunkier and heavier iPhone, users can expect a serious battery life upgrade this year. Apple says to expect around 1.5 hours of extra life compared to the iPhone 12, which totals around 19 hours of video playback – or 15 hours if you're streaming over Wi-Fi or 5G. If you're just using your iPhone 13 to listen to music, Apple says you can expect the handset to last 75 hours before you need to reach for a charger.
When it comes to the nightly Netflix binge the OLED XDR screens have also been upgraded on both phones with Apple promising punchy colours and much richer blacks. The displays also get brighter allowing you to see content even in the midday sunshine. Another nice change is that Apple has reduced the notch meaning there's more space for your content.
Just like last year, these new iPhones can connect to the latest 5G data speeds and are IP68 water-resistant although the firm has now ditched the 64GB model and replaced it with 128 GB of storage as standard.
“Our customers rely on iPhone every day, which is why we’ve made iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini more powerful, more capable, and more fun to use,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Both phones have beautiful designs, industry-leading performance, and advanced camera systems with impressive computational photography features, all with incredible durability, water resistance, and a big jump in battery life to ensure customers can depend on their iPhone when they need it. All of this, tightly integrated with iOS 15 and with privacy built in, make iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini an unbeatable choice.”
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will be available in Pink, Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and (PRODUCT)RED with prices starting from £679.
