Xiaomi reveals revolutionary camera design - Samsung, Huawei, OnePlus may want to follow
XIAOMI has just unveiled a jaw-dropping camera design that seamlessly blends old and new, and it's something rivals like Samsung, Huawei and OnePlus may want to emulate.
Xiaomi has lifted the lid on eye-catching new smartphone camera design that other rivals in the industry may want to copy. The Mi and Redmi makers have just unveiled a striking new camera lens that could give some of their upcoming handsets an extremely premium feel. The new Xiaomi camera is a telephoto lens which, like traditional cameras, has a lens which physically zooms in and out of the body.
The design of the large-aperture lens can reportedly increase light input by 300 percent, and also improve clarity by almost a quarter (20 percent).
The new Xiaomi smartphone lens, which is akin to one you'd find on a point-and-shoot camera, also boasts new image stabilisation tech, according to a post by Android Authority.
Xiaomi are yet to reveal ƒ number of the lens, but a video of it in action is surely enough to garner plenty of hype and get pre-orders rolling in for any future handsets sporting this camera.
A video shared on Weibo by Xiaomi showed the camera in action, with the retractable lens moving in and out of the phone when a close-up is needed.

It's a striking design, and miles different from anything else on the market that is offered by Xiaomi rivals such as Samsung, OnePlus and Huawei.
The camera set-ups seen in modern smartphones tend to feature fixed telephoto lenses which cannot physically adjust zoom length.
The revolutionary design Xiaomi is touting could allow for plenty more options when taking a shot, potentially making it a go-to choice for serious camera buffs.
Plus, it may also allow Xiaomi to have just one main camera on future smartphones - doing away with the triple and quadruple rear camera set-ups that have become commonplace.
If Xiaomi are able to pair this lens with a high-quality sensor and software then they could have a tantalising proposition that sets itself apart from all the other options on the market.
At the moment the tech is in its final stages of testing, with it unclear when it will make a debut and on which Xiaomi smartphone. But it's definitely exciting tech that Xiaomi's rivals may want to keep an eye on.
In other Xiaomi news, recently revealed stats make for very pleasant reading for the Beijing-based smartphone giant.
As revealed in a post by Android Headlines, a new study from Counterpoint Research says Xiaomi made up ground on Huawei in August.
The figures, released in October, found that after Huawei overtook Samsung to be the world's largest smartphone maker in April, figures have begun to fall.
In August Counterpoint Research found Huawei's share of the smartphone market fell to 16 percent. In April it had a 21 percent slice.

Samsung, meanwhile, saw their marketshare rise from 20 percent in April to 22 percent in August to regain the number one smartphone maker crown.
Apple saw their 12 percent share remain unchanged, but in August Xiaomi managed to move into fourth slot on the list of top performers in the smartphone industry.
The Redmi and Mi makers saw their market share rise from eight percent in April to 11 percent in August.
It's believed Xiaomi has managed to make up ground in the West amid the impact of US sanctions on Huawei.
