O2 down: Thousands unable to make or receive phone calls in UK outage
O2 down reports are flooding in right now, with users of the major mobile network today reporting issues making or receiving calls. Here is the O2 service status latest for those in the UK.
O2: Users across the UK experience issues with mobile network
O2 DOWN - UPDATE THREE: O2 is back up and running now, with the outage that affected users earlier today over.
Outage monitor Down Detector started to see a huge spike of O2 down reports from midday, with users experiencing problems making or receiving calls.
But around two hours after reports of issues first emerged Down Detector saw a huge drop off in O2 down reports.
Since then the official O2 Service Status page says the network is back up and running again as normal.
O2 DOWN - UPDATE TWO: O2 has just given customers in the UK an update on the ongoing service issues that have hit today.
O2 has confirmed there is an issue which might be affecting some customers when they attempt to make or receive a call.
They added that data and text services are not impacted, and more updates will be shared on the official O2 Service Status page.
In their latest update O2 said: "We’re aware of an issue which might be affecting some customers making and receiving voice calls. Our technical teams are investigating.
"Data and text messages are not impacted. We apologise for any inconvenience.
"Updates will be shared here as soon they are available."
O2 DOWN - UPDATE ONE: O2 has confirmed that they are investigating reports of an "issue" with their network coverage in the UK today.
Down Detector has seen a huge spike in O2 down reports today since midday, with thousands of reported problems with the major mobile network.
Speaking about the reported problems, an O2 spokesperson said: "We’re aware of an issue which might be affecting some customers today and our technical teams are investigating. We apologise for any inconvenience.
"Updates will be shared on our online status checker as soon they are available."
ORIGINAL: O2 down reports are surging in right now, with customers in the UK reporting issues making or receiving calls.
Independent outage monitor Down Detector has seen a huge spike in O2 down reports today.
Out of those affected some 87 per cent are experiencing issues with their mobile phone, with network and internet issues also reported.
The Down Detector outage map says the O2 down issues are mainly affecting users in England as well as parts of Scotland.
O2 customers have flocked to social networking site Twitter today to report issues with the service.
One tweeted: "@O2 is there a problem with the network? Can’t make or receive calls and others here having similar issues!"
And another posted: "@O2 just been kicked out of a work conference call now unable to make outbound calls or receive calls!!!"
While one O2 customer wrote: "#O2down O2 is down for calls".

At the time of writing Down Detector UK has registered a peak of over 5,000 reports of O2 down.
The outage monitor started to see a rise in O2 down reports around 12pm BST.
The site also said among the main areas affected by the O2 network issues are London, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow and Leicester.
Express.co.uk has contacted O2 for comment about today's reported service issues.

But in the meantime the official O2 Service Status page has confirmed the network is aware of an issue, with their teams investigating it at the moment.
