Banish oven glass grease in 30 minutes with 30p kitchen item - not vinegar or baking soda

Baked-on oven grease and grime can leave your appliance looking and smelling a little gross. It also creates a potential hazard, as the buildup may contain enough grease and oil to start a small grease fire in your oven.

TikTok user shares 'life hack' for deep cleaning ovens

Oven cleaning is probably one of the most common chores households put off for as long as possible.

However, the longer this cleaning task is put off, the harder it will be to achieve a sparkling oven, particularly when it comes to the glass door.

While there is a wide range of oven cleaners on the market, they are full of harsh chemicals.

In a bid to “never” use toxic oven cleaners, Joanne and Tracy, the women behind @additivefreelifestyle on Instagram, have shared a simple method they “you’ll be blown away” by.

They have shared a video on how households can use lemons to clean their oven glass door and the rest of the entire appliance.

The influencers captioned the video: “For years I have used our soft cleaning scrub and although that’s great, it can be a pain to get out and leaves residue sometimes. I’ll never use it again now I know how to do this.

“And I’ll never use the toxic stuff from the shops, which I certainly did before I knew better.”

To clean your oven “naturally”, start by chopping up your lemons (you may need a few depending on how dirty the oven is), place them into a casserole dish, top with water and cook them in the oven at 200C for 30 minutes.

The combination of the citrus and water will steam the oven, acting as a natural grease buster and softening the grime inside.

After, turn the oven off and either leave the door closed to cool down or open the door and allow everything to cool down (including lemons and the water).

Then give the doors and walls a little scrub (use some lemon water if you have to) and wipe away.

The influencers said: “With the stubborn areas and racks I rubbed over the cooked lemon and then it easily scrubbed off. You’ll be blown away.”

Not only is this oven cleaning tip effective, but it’s also cheap too. Lemons can be picked up from Sainsbury’s and Asda for 30p.

To take it a step further, households can also use the hot lemon mixture to degrease their stovetop and microwave
