Express.co.uk tested six different kitchen rolls to see which would come out on top as the most effective.

Overall Winner - Plenty 50 sheet, £1.83 for 2
Strength when wet - 3/5. Not as strong as the adverts would have you believe and you certainly can’t squeeze it and re-use, but not the worst that was tested.
Water absorption - 4/5. Excellent, really soaked up all of the water
Cleaning spills - 4/5. Absorbed the spill fast and left no residue
Morrison’s 50 sheet, £1.24 for 2
Strength when wet - 2/5. Did not feel as strong as the leader in this category, and ripped apart easily.
Water absorption - 3/5. Moderate absorption, but could have been better
Cleaning spills - 3/5. Cleaned the spill effectively, but did leave some behind

Strength when wet - 2/5. Not strong, and fell apart when lightly pulled
Water absorption - 2/6. Did not soak up all of the water
Cleaning spills - 2/6. Poor cleaning effort, left a lot of the spill behind
Tesco 50 sheet, £1.35 for 2
Strength when wet - 4/5. Extremely strong, it took a lot to break this up
Water absorption - 3/5. Despite being the thickest of the supermarket kitchen rolls, this did not absorb as much water as the leader in this category
Cleaning spills - 3/5. Very good, but did leave some residue behind

Strength when wet - 1/5. Very, very thin, this kitchen roll fell apart almost immediately when wet.
Water absorption - 1/5. Poor, the paper was overwhelmed by even a small amount of water
Cleaning spills - 1/5. Not good at cleaning, this left most of the spill behind
