Hot cross buns are a spiced sweet bun made with currants or raisins, marked with a cross on top and traditionally eaten on Good Friday.
Express.co.uk tested buns for fruit content, flavour, and moistness. These are the results:
OVERALL WINNER: Morrison’s Extra Fruity, £1 for 4
Fruit content 22/25 Generous amounts of fruit made these a luxurious option
Moistness 20/25 Probably thanks to the fruit, these buns were universally praised for their moistness
Flavour 20/25 Generously spiced but not overpowering
Co-Op, £1 for 6
Fruit content 10/25 Poor fruit levels made these a disappointing choice
Moistness 9/25 Testers noted these were particularly dry
