Snow White, Cinderella, Jasmine: Disney Princesses as breast cancer survivors
AN ITALIAN artist has challenged our perceptions of beauty by re-imaging cartoon favourites with mastectomies
Contemporary artist and activist Alexsandro Palombo has re-imaged Disney Princesses as breast cancer survivors, with the hope of raising awareness.
The project entitled 'Survivor' is designed to be a powerful reflection of the disease, mastectomy and it's effects.
The Italian artist also hopes the shocking images will challenge our ideas of beauty, femininity and acceptance.
His latest work sees the Disney princesses including Snow White, Cinderella, Jasmine and Sleeping Beauty with either a single or double mastectomy scars.
And the artists efforts aren’t just limited to Disney, he also includes Marge Simpson, Lois from Family Guy, Olive Oyl, Wonder Woman, Wilma Flintsone and Betty Boop.
He has released these images just in time for the end of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
A time which aims to raise awareness and funds for the most common cancer in the UK.
And this isn’t the first time Palombo has used well-known characters to raise important issues.
In the past, he’s used them as a springboard to talk about both domestic violence and disability.
He has also re-imaged famous celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Amal Clooney as Simpson characters.
