In mainland China, some refer to Chinese New Year as the Spring Festival, or the Lunar New Year. Annually, Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a new annum, and families will join together to celebrate.
The date of Chinese New Year differs from the Gregorian calendar, and takes place whenever the first new moon falls between January 21 and February 20.
As a result of the Chinese lunar calendar, the date of Chinese New Year changes annually.
Families typically decorate their homes to mark the significant occasion.
Collectively families will also honour their ancestors on this date, and will sit down to enjoy a meal together.

What are some greetings for Chinese New Year?

You can say “Xīnnián kuàilè (新年快乐) to simply say “Happy New Year”.
You pronounce this as shin nee-an kwai le.
